The Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship Program offers a competition for awards for
undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic
Opportunity Act of 2000. The program aims to encourage students to choose
non-traditional studies at abroad destinations. The awards are competitive
and the recipients must use the award to defray eligible study abroad costs.
The scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are
receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a 2 year or 4 year college or university
to participate in study abroad programs worldwide. These costs include program
tuition, room and board, books, local transportation, insurance and
international airfare. Awards, up to $5000.00 are made for U.S. citizen
undergraduates to study abroad.
